Did You Know; Memorials made of light-colored granites, such as Laurention Pink, Mountain Rose and Standstead Grey need to have the lettering and design painted black in order for them to show up properly. The amount of time this paint will last varies depending on the weather and location, but it usually only lasts about 10 or 15 years. We guarantee these granites but we Do Not guarantee the paint used in the lettering or designs.

P.S. To have a family memorial that will truly stand the "Test of Time" we highly recommend you use Black, Dark Gray or India Red granites. These colors Do Not Require Painting and show up very well.

Upright Memorials are the most common type of cemetery memorial used today. They consist of 2 pieces, the top piece is called the "Die". They are available in a number of sizes and are usually 6 inches thick. They may be polished on two, three or all five sides. The bottom piece is known as the "base" which extends out on all sides of the Die and is usually 6 inches thick.

Uniquely Shaped Uprights come in many shapes and sizes, from Hearts to Diamonds to whatever your imagination can envision.

Traditional Style Uprights are 1 to 2 inches higher in the middle of the Die than the outside edges of the Die, this is called a Serp top. Sizes vary from small to large depending on the cemetery regulations.

Pillow Memorials are the second most common type of cemetery memorial used today. They are lower to the ground and may consist of one or two pieces. The top piece is called a "Pillow" and is available in two styles. The bottom piece is known as the "base"which extends out on all sides of the Pillow and is usually 6 inches thick.

Polished Three-Sided Pillows slope from 8 inches at the back to 5 inches at the front and are polished on the top, front & back and are rough on both ends. This style of Pillow is always placed on a granite base as it is necessary to protect the polished front from the cemetery lawnmowers.

Polished One-Sided Pillows slope from 6 inches at the back to 3 inches at the front and are polished on the top and rough on all four sides. This style of Pillow may be used with a granite base or it may be placed directly on the foundation without a granite base.

Granite Benches are gaining in popularity as cemetery memorials but are mainly donated to cemeteries and parks as enduring memorials to a loved one. When a Bench is donated to the City of Lethbridge Cemetery a tax receipt is issued by the city and can be used as an income tax deduction.
